Brow lift

If the eyebrows are too low or too straight they can produce an aged image and a tired, sad or moody expression. The lifting of eyebrows is the surgical procedure indicated to eliminate wrinkles on the forehead and improve the position and arch of the eyebrows. With this procedure we can eliminate wrinkles on the forehead, caused by aging or muscle contraction., Refresh the look , raise the position of the eyebrows, modify the arch of the eyebrows for various purposes. For example: give them a younger or more feminine look. In the case of suspension lifts, they have a preventive effect if applied during youth. The suspension is performed by introducing special threads under the skin, which produce fibrosis of the subdermal tissues. The presence of the threads added to the fibrosis, forms a reinforcing structure that supports the tissues of the area and delays the appearance of flaccidity. In combination with eyelid (blepharoplasty), facial (rhytidectomy), and neck lifts, it produces a complete rejuvenation of the neck and face.

The best candidates

This surgery is mostly performed in people from the age of forty, to minimize the effects of age, although it can be implemented in anyone with low eyebrows. Many times this procedure is performed in combination with other parts to obtain a full facial lift. In the case of peeled patients, this surgery can be very helpful, since it will not leave scars noticeable since the insitions will be very small and will be hidden in the scalp.

Planning your surgery

To have a good understanding of what this surgery can do for you, we recommend that you stand in front of a mirror, and place the palms of your hands in the outer region of your eyes, over your eyebrows, gently pull the skin upward as to raise the eyebrow and the frontal area. So you will have an approximation of what this surgery could do for you. In the initial consultation, we will evaluate your face, including your skin and bone structure. We will ask you about the goals you want to achieve with this surgery, as well as your background in terms of high blood pressure, antecedents of facial surgeries, smoking habits, as well as if you take any medication. Based on this, we will explain what is the ideal procedure for you.

Getting ready for your surgery

We will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery including rules for eating, drinking, smoking, and certain vitamins or medications you should take or avoid. Following these instructions carefully will help your surgery to be performed more efficiently and without hindrance. When making preparations be sure to arrange for someone to accompany you home after surgery and to help you for a few days if necessary.

Where will your surgery be done?

The surgery is performed in the Sanatorium, which has all the necessary medical equipment and the greatest comfort for you. The day of surgery should come with the washed face and without makeup. You should arrive about 30 minutes before the scheduled time, to make the entry procedures, make a complete medical history, and take preoperative photographs. In your room you can change clothes. After the surgery, he will stay in the clinic for two to four hours, until we make sure everything is in order and he can return to his home, where he will continue to rest.

Types of anesthesia

Eyebrow surgery is usually done under local anesthesia which numbs the area around the eyes along with oral or intravenous sedatives. You will be awake during surgery but you will find yourself relaxed and insensitive to pain. Occasionally, you may feel some small burning during the administration of local anesthesia, similar to what you may experience at the dentist, but that disappears in seconds.

Surgery

The surgery lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on the technique to be implemented. There are several possible techniques to perform an eyebrow lift. Basically we can divide them into 2 groups: A) Techniques in which the soft parts of the forehead are separated from the frontal bone. Indicated for the integral treatment of wrinkles and flaccidity of the entire forehead. The most important are coronal, endoscopic and temporal.

1 Coronal: Its main negative aspect are the extensive scars it leaves, as well as a more annoying postoperative period. An incision is made that goes from ear to ear at the top of the head and is hidden by the hair. This incision allows the scalp and the skin of the forehead to be separated from the cranium giving us a direct view of the lax and puckered muscles, and a great facility to maneuver with the instruments.

2 Endoscopic: It is similar to the previous one, but access to muscle tissues is not achieved through the coronal incision, but through 5 mini incisions that are used to introduce a fiber optic probe that enlarges the images and displays them in a screen. The work of tensing the limp or puckering muscles is done without the need to expose them to direct vision. Frequently the endoscopic lifting is associated with suspension methods that are described below.

3 Temporary: Also known as mini-face lift or lateral brow lift. On both sides of your forehead, at the temples, we will make a vertical incision behind the hairline so that the resulting scar is hidden. Through this incision we will tighten the tissues of the temple area, which elevates the tails (lateral region) of the eyebrows. This produces a significant improvement in the lateral freshness of the eyes and an attractive exotic touch in the eyes. B) Techniques for suspension indicated for the localized treatment of the eyebrows. With this technique, by means of a 3 mm mini insertion, hidden in the scalp of your forehead and region of the seines, we will pass a special surgical thread that is surrounded by small plastic quills for its better fixation, which is passed underneath. the skin from one end to the other of the area that you want to treat. By means of this thread the tissues that determine the shape and position of the eyebrows are tightened

After surgery

In the case of suspension techniques, its postoperative will not be unpleasant at all. You will have a stitch in each incision (approximately three on each side), which will be removed after five days. In the event that you feel any discomfort, it can be totally controlled by regular analgesic medication that we will prescribe. You can return to your usual activities the day after the surgery, except in situations where you may receive a blow to the head. In the case of techniques that require greater detachment, the postoperative period will be somewhat longer. It will have greater scars (which will be hidden by the hair), and the stitches will be removed approximately ten days, except in the endopic, where the scars and stitches are similar to the suspension techniques. You may have some swelling on your forehead, as well as certain bruises, which will go down with the days. You may feel your forehead somewhat numb for a few days, but gradually you will recover sensation.

Getting back to normal

While you can return to work the next day and wash your head after two days of surgery, if you require a more complex surgery, you must wait a few days to return to their activities. In the case of suspension techniques, in a few days it will be totally deflated and without any sign that it has undergone surgery. As for techniques with detachment, the same process will take about three weeks, although within a few days you can use some type of makeup to cover the bruises that could be left.

Your new look

The vast majority of patients are highly satisfied with the results of this procedure, regardless of the technique implemented. Frequently, patients are not aware of how their drooping eyebrows worsen the signs of aging until they see how much younger and rested they look after this surgery.
